MASS AWARENESS CAMPAIGN TO HALT PADDY STRAW BURNING

Experts educated Farmers on Energy Efficient Technologies in Agriculture sector

 

Gurdaspur, March 10 (     )   Punjab Agriculture University (PAU) Ludhiana in association with PHD Chamber of Commerce and Industry and  Punjab Energy Development Agency (PEDA) has initiated a MASS AWARENESS CAMPAIGN TO HALT PADDY STRAW BURNING in 10 districts of Punjab.

Under the banner, Series of Seminars on Enhancing Energy Efficiency and Sustainable Practices in Agriculture Sector with special focus to halt paddy straw are being organized. Eighth in the series is being organized today ie. 10 March 2018 at Village Sahari, block Dhariwal, Distt. Gurdaspur, Punjab.

 

Mr. Jagwinder jeet Singh Sandhu, Additional Deputy Commissioner (ADC) Gurdaspur was the Chief Guest on the occasion.

Dr. Gurbinder singh Bajwa from young progressive  farmers producers association (YPFPO) welcomed all farmers and speakers present on the occasion.

Sh Sandhu  apprised farmers of the disadvantages of stubble burning and urged farmers to use balers, happy seeders, zero tillage machines, Super SMS and related technologies to control stubble burning and safeguard our environment. He appealed farmers to manage crop residue to better soil health.

Dr.Sawroop kumar, Chief Agriculture officer; Dr. Shahbaz Singh cheema; Dr. Amrik singh Agriculture dept., Govt. Of Punjab also shared their views during the programme.

The seminar was organized to raise awareness and disseminate information  among farmers in Gurdaspur to  To adopt  Energy Efficient (EE) technologies, including EE motors and pump sets.To spread awareness on the disadvantages of stubble burningPromote use of balers, happy seeders, zero tillage machines, Super SMS and related technologies among farmers to control stubble burning and safeguard our environment.

 

Special focus of the event was to educate farmers on Straw management technologies with practical demonstration of the machines/ technologies at the site. One acre wheat was sown with “PAU Happy Seeder machine with  press wheel” to establish crop plantation without paddy straw burning.

Experts from Punjab Agriculture University; Senior Govt. officials from Dept. of Agriculture, Punjab; Esteemed speakers from Krishi Vigyan Kendras,  Punjab Energy Development Agency, Farmer Advisory Services Centre shared their rich expertise on the subject.

 

The programme ended with Vote of thanks byMs. Rimneet Kaur, Deputy resident Director, PHD Chamebr of Commerce & Industry.

Nearly 150 participants including Farmers, Technology Providers & Agri / Farm Equipment Manufacturers attended the programme.
