VERA MUKTSAR MARATHON 2018 ALL SET TO FLAG OFF ON 18TH MARCH TO DISSEMINATE MESSAGE AGAINST DRUG ADDICTION
-RANINDER SINGH WILL PRESIDE OVER THE EVENT AS THE CHIEF GUEST

The Punjab state government is holding Vera Muktsar Marathon 2018 powered by HDFC Bank on March 18th to eradicate the evil of drugs and to make it the biggest Marathon of Punjab and India.
Disclosing this here today Deputy Commissioner Dr. Sumeet Jarangal said that Sri Muktsar Sahib has immense religious as well as a historical importance. He said that 40 Sikh Warriors ‘Chalie Muktas’ fought bravely here against the prejudice spread by Mughal Emperors. “Now in this new Arena, Muktsar District again stands against the most dreadful disease- drugs spreading in the youth and it has started gearing up for the first edition of Vera Muktsar Marathon 2018 powered by HDFC to disseminate message against drugs,” he added.
Deputy Commissioner said that Chief Minister of Punjab Capt. Amrinder Singh had unveiled the T-shirt of Vera Muktsar Marathon 2018 which will redefine Marathon running in the region. He said that Raninder Singh, President of Shooting Federation of India has accepted the invitation and extended his support and will preside over this event as the chief guest. He said that this mega running event will be flagged off by the legendary athlete flying sikh Milkha Singh on Sunday March 18th at New Grain Market Gidderbaha at 7:30 a.m. and it will cover lush green countryside route covering four villages adjoining to town. “Live performance by the legendary Punjabi singer Gurdas Maan would also be the star attraction of the event,” he added.
Dr. Sumeet Jarangal said that district Olympic Association (DOA) is the organizer of the event and it would set new standards in long distance running, a feat that has never been seen before in this region. He said that this event would provide a level playing field to athletes and amateurs giving them a platform to showcase their athletic talent in the most challenging, exhilarating and rewarding running event. Deputy Commissioner said that the DOA has set a target to involve more than 10000 youth in the marathon and has approached National and international level athletes too to bring motivation spirit and to take this event to the next level of success.
Dr. Jaranagal further said that the marathon will be played out in three categories, half marathon 21 km, 10 km as the competitive race and 5 km as the fun race. He said that there will be cash prizes worth RS 13 lacs. “The event will culminate with an oath that would be taken by the participants to make the drug free society,” he added.
