New Delhi, February 12,2019: The apex court bench led by Chief Justice Ranjan Gogoi found CBI’s interim director M Nageshwar Rao guilty in contempt of court in a case related to Muzaffarpur shelter home case, for transferring chief investigating officer.
While a fine of Rs 1 lakh has been imposed, Rao has been directed to sit in one corner of the court till the court rises for the day.
CJI Ranjan Gogoi held that “Contempt has been committed. So there will be a mark on his ( former interim CBI Director M Nageshwar Rao) career.”
Attorney General KK Venugopal appeared for M Nageshwar Rao.
Earlier, Nageshwar Rao had submitted an unconditional apology to the Supreme Court and asked for mercy as it was not done intentionally.
Supreme Court had reprimanded Nageshwar Rao for transferring AK Sharma, the chief investigating officer in the Muzaffarpur shelter home rape case, inspite of the clear orders by the apex court that he will not be transferred.
